Obituary: William A. "Bill" Schneider - Class of 1947

MADISON [Wisconsin] - William A. Bill Schneider, age 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 31, 2001, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 26, 1929, the son of Hubert and Florence (Harrington) Schneider in Madison. Bill was a 1947 graduate of Central High School, where he served as his senior class president. He married Mayvis Linden on January 27, 1951, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Bill attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1951 and in 1954 received his M.B.A. He served his country in the Army with transportation corps in Korea from 1954 until 1956. After his time in the service, Bill began a career in insurance sales. Bill purchased and managed residential properties in the U.W. campus area. He loved visiting children and grandchildren, European travel, classical music, nature, and walking. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mayvis; six children, Sally (Allen) Webb of Minneapolis, Nancy (Gordon) King of Atlanta, Dave (Bonnie) Schneider of Homer, Alaska, Patrick (Dawn) Schneider of Homer, Alaska, Kenneth (Sherry) Schneider of Waunakee, and Judith (Tim) Droster of Madison; 24 grandchildren, Paul, Jennifer, Carrie and Andrew Webb, Benjamin, Matthew, Stephen, Daniel, Julianne, Sarah, Christin, and Carly King, Robin, Rachael, Patrick, Emily and Kenneth Schneider, Lucas and Lindsey Schneider, Adam and Joseph Schneider, and David, William and James Droster; his brother, Duane (Suzanne) Schneider of Denver, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Doris, Monica, and Janet Schneider, and Nira Linden; in-laws, Fred (Delores) Fuller, William (Kathryn) Flynn, and Richard (Mary Jeanne) Imhoff. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Hubert, Jack, David and Donald Schneider; and a brother-in-law, Delbert Linden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave. at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2001, with Fr. Roger Nilles presiding. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive. The family wishes to express its deepest thanks and appreciation to HospiceCare Inc. and Dr. Marshall Fields, his nurse, Mary, and the entire staff of the East Madison Clinic. May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back, May the sunshine warm your face, And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

His wife, Mayvis Linden Schneider who graduated from Central in 1946 died on April 2, 2015. Her obituary is easy to find.

MADISON - Mayvis G. Schneider, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Jan. 11, 1928, in Madison, the daughter of Bernard and Cleon (Dunn) Linden. She married the love of her life, William A. Schneider, on Jan. 27, 1951, during a memorable snowstorm at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Mayvis' career included working in various capacities at UW-Madison. She worked for and with such notable campus pioneers as Drs. Harry Waisman and Paul Carbone. Her happiest times always revolved around family, especially visiting her children and grandchildren, as well as many trips to Europe. Mayvis also treasured a lifetime of Friday night fish fry dates with Bill.

Mayvis is survived by her children, Sally (Allen) Webb, Nancy (Gordon) King, David (Bonnie Jason), Patrick (Dawn Marie), Ken (Sherry), and Judie (Bill) Schneider-Larson; grandchildren, Paul, Jen, Carrie, Andrew, Ben, Matt, Stephen, Daniel, Julianne, Sarah, Christen, Carly, Robin, Rachael, Patrick, Emily, Kenneth, Lucas, Lindsey, Adam, Joe, David, Will, and James; great-grandchildren, Tate, Charlotte, Grace, Bailey, Ella, Daniel, Brynn, and Roan; and sisters, Delores (Fred) Fuller, Kathryn (Bill) Flynn, and Mary Jeanne (Richard) Imhoff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and brother, Delbert Linden.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, with Father Roger Nilles presiding. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
