Obituary: John Peter Maly

SUN PRAIRIE [Wisconsin] - John Peter Maly, born on March 5, 1938, beloved father, husband, son and grandfather, passed away on April 7, 2001, after a long battle with ALS. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary; children, Lynda, James, Steven, Jewitt III, Jason, Mike, Mark, and step daughter April; all 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; his mother, Gladys; sisters, Shirley Pena, Annette Hummel; and brother, Carl. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Maly; and his second wife, Jayne White. John was born and raised in Madison. He attended Central High and served in the military. He was a member of the Laborer's Union Local 236. John retired from the City of Madison Streets Department after 22 years of service. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Avenue (near Parmenter Street), Middleton, with Monsignor Joseph P. Higgins presiding. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. He touched a lot of people in his life and will be missed by many. On the Wings of an Angel he'll fly.
