Obituary: Evelyn P. (Alexander) Shafer

MADISON [Wisconsin] - Evelyn P. Shafer, age 82, died peacefully at her home, with her loving family by her side, on Wednesday, January 31, 2001. She was born in Madison on October 10, 1918, to Charles and Ethel (Nagle) Alexander. She married Robert C. Shafer in Madison on June 17, 1939. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2000. Evelyn worked as a laboratory technician for the University of Wisconsin State Hygiene Lab for more than 20 years. She and Robert retired to St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1981. She was a graduate of Madison Central High School. Evelyn will be deeply missed and is lovingly survived by her children, David (Barbara) of Madison, and Linda (David) Furseth of Johnson Creek. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Carol (Robert) Knudson and Marion (James) Meiler; and a lifelong friend, Lucille Boeker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brothers, Bobby and Richard Alexander. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2001, at SCHROEDER-CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave. The Rev. Donald O. Cottom will officiate. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be private. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of HospiceCare Inc., especially Pat, Susan, Claudia and Dr. Kay Heggestad.
