MADISON - Dorothy J. (Bailey) Cole, of Meriter Terraces Retirement Community, Madison, formerly of Monona, died on Thursday, May 5, 2005, at the Don and Marilyn Hospice Center. She was 82. She was the beloved wife of the late Harvey L. Cole for 41 years. Dorothy was born in Norway Grove, Wis., on June 4, 1922, to Mabel (Thorstad) and John E. Bailey. She was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1940, and was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. Dorothy worked in the Monona Grove High School library for more than 25 years until she retired in 1984. She was also active in the Bethel Parish Shoppe, the Eastern Star, and the Madison Elks Lodge. Dorothy was a warm, fun-loving person who enjoyed reading, traveling, playing euchre, shopping, and socializing with friends and family. She will be sadly missed as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend to many. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Cole, and granddaughters, Sarah and Megan Kavanagh of Doylestown, Pa.; her sister, Alice Oelhafen, of Rockford, Ill.; her sister-in-law, Sylvia Bailey, of Madison; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jeffrey Kavanagh; her brother, John L. Bailey; her sisters, Janet (Bailey) Huff and Celoris (Bailey) Grady; and her brothers-in-law, Earl Oelhafen and James Grady. Relatives and friends are invited to call after 10 a.m. until her memorial service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Monona. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Bethel Horizons Camp Program, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, WI 53703.
