Obituary: Lee S. (Lewis) Baxter - Class of 1969

MADISON - Lee S. Baxter, age 62, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. Lee was born in Madison on Oct. 21, 1951, to Elizabeth and Eugene Lewis. Lee graduated from Central High School in 1969 and MATC in 1971. On Aug. 12, 1972, she married Patrick J. Baxter. Lee worked as a legal secretary at the State Bar of Wisconsin until her first child was born. She began her second career in 1978 raising her four children. Lee was very active in her children's lives. She was their partner and advocate through their education, sports teams and all aspects of their lives. Lee's third career began two years ago with the birth of her first grandchild, Genevieve, followed by Patrick. She was thrilled to mentor and nurture her two beautiful grandkids. "Nana" created the perfect kids paradise at her home and always looked forward to entertaining them. Lee was president of P.E.O. chapter BY in Madison. She loved being part of this group of wonderful ladies and looked forward to the monthly meetings and projects. Lee and Pat travelled the world and enjoyed time spent with their kids on annual family vacations and "Up North" at their home in Three Lakes, Wis. Christmas and Halloween were her favorite holidays and she went all out for both. Lee is survived by her husband of 42 years, Patrick; children, Sean and wife, Amanda, Ryan, Brendan and wife, Kristin, all of Madison, and Bridget of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Genevieve and Patrick (Sean and Amanda); siblings, Gene Lewis and Ginny Clark; and in-laws, Monsignor Tom Baxter, Rick Baxter, Mary and George Meier, William and Therese Baxter and Erin Lewis. Lee was a beautiful woman who was kind, generous, caring, intelligent and humble. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Services will be private. Obituary: James Franklin, Jr. - Class of 1969

MADISON - James Franklin Jr. [age 63], also known as "Jun" passed away on Feb 11, 2013 at the Hyland Park of Sun Prairie Assisted Living facility after a very long illness.

He was born on Oct. 24, 1949, in Birmingham, Ala., the fifth of eight children born to James and Clara Franklin who came to Madison, in 1951. James Jr. attended Franklin Elementary School and was a [1969] graduate of Central High School where he excelled in track. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant and served his country for 13 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Franklin Sr.; grandparents, Joseph Franklin, Eddie Jackson, Callie Jackson, Yancy Hill, Ollie Williams, Mary Lou Williams, the first born Franklin baby brother, Robert Franklin, and a younger sister, Callie Franklin-McIntyre. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Clara Mae Hill-Franklin of Madison; two sisters, Rosemary Franklin-Smith of Philadelphia, Pa., and Linda Franklin of Madison; three brothers, Joseph Franklin of Oshkosh, Larry (Doris) Franklin of Everett, Wash., and Jerome Franklin of Madison; Jun’s one and only son, Michael Franklin of Clarksville, Tenn.; and a host of grandchildren nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances.

Obituary: William C. "Willy" Teasdale - Class of 1969

MADISON/ FITCHBURG - William C. "Willy" Teasdale, age 61, passed away on March 5, 2012, at his home in Fitchburg, with his beloved wife of 26 years by his side. He was born Dec. 20, 1950, in Madison, son of Charles and Virginia Teasdale. He graduated from Central High School in 1969 and proudly served in the U.S. Army before being honorably discharged in 1979. He was the 3rd generation owner/operator of the Silver Dollar Tavern for the past 38 years, member of the Madison Elks Lodge No. 410 for 26 years, and a life member of the VFW Post 1318. He took great pride in his home. He especially enjoyed landscaping and remodeling projects with the assistance of his friend, Tip. To make his home more joyous, he was extremely devoted to his two pets, Henri and Gracie. As he crosses over the rainbow bridge, he will whistle and Henri will be rejoined with his master. His favorite pastime was his passion for golf, which he enjoyed with his wife, friends, and his league play at Foxboro. There were many scores below 80. He also enjoyed professional sports and was known to make a wager from time to time. He is survived by his wife, Ellie Teasdale, of Fitchburg; sons, Charles Teasdale (Kris) and Brian Teasdale (Michelle) of Waunakee; daughter, Tanya Teasdale; grandchildren, Cierra, Ashley, Hannah, Parker, and Peyton Teasdale of Waunakee; and brother, John Teasdale of Madison. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Susan Shaw; and brother, James Teasdale. "He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature" (Socrates).

Obituary: Barbara (Buppy) Lengyel - Class of 1969

PURVIS, MISSISSIPPI/VERONA, WISCONSIN - With sadness and heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of our Beloved Barbara (Buppy) Jones, age 61, who passed away unexpectedly on June 9, 2011, in Purvis, Miss.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1949, in Madison. She moved to Purvis, Miss., where she married Elgin Jones. Buppy was one "Heck" of a lady! Rarely would you see her sitting down (except for eating). She had a mouth like a "drunken sailor," that made us all laugh! If you needed help (or anything) she was the first one there! Buppy was one of the last graduates of Central High School in 1969. In 2005 she survived Hurricane Katrina!! She loved to fish on the Wisconsin River, attend Saturday night auctions, and take care of her pecan trees.

Buppy leaves behind her husband, Elgin Jones; sons, John "Johnny" (Terri) Lengyel and Jestin (Renee) Becker Lengyel; stepson, John; granddaughter, Jailin; and grandson, John Jr. and another grandchild on the way; brothers, Charles "Punky" Lengyel and Donny (Mildred) Lengyel; sisters, LaVonne "Suzy" (Jerry) Dunn, Margaret "Mikki" (Jim) Grant, MaryAnn "Modie" Schulenberg, Tinki Jensen, Linda "Linti" Wilson (Rod), Betty "Petey" Lengyel; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Laura Lengyel; brother, Jerry Gene Lengyel; nephew, Jerry Lengyel "Little Jerry"; and brothers-in-law, Mike "Mickey" Schulenberg and Thomas Jensen.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Obituary: Camilla Jean (Glasrud) Crawford - Class of 1969

WATERTOWN - Camilla Jean (Glasrud) Crawford [age 58] bravely fought and lost her battle with cancer on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010. She was born on Oct. 4, 1951, and spent her early years in Pipestone, Minn. Her parents, Leslie E. (deceased) and Margaret Rud Glasrud, plus their six children, left Pipestone for Rochester, Minn. and then moved to Madison. At the latter, Cam, as she wished to be called, attended and graduated from Central High School in 1969. While in Madison, she also matriculated at Madison Business College to acquire a secretarial certificate. In 1979, she was employed by EVCO Plastics Corporation of DeForest, where she was employed in many roles over the years before becoming corporate payroll assistant. She worked with EVCO until 2008. In 1995, she married Peter Crawford of Pardeeville. They settled in Watertown. Cam gained a daughter from her marriage to Peter-Nicole Anna Crawford. For leisure and recreational activities Cam enjoyed playing pool and water skiing in her younger years. She also liked to read, visit antique and craft shows, work in her garden and listen to music. Cam fascinated friends and acquaintances alike with stories from The Male Bible, an unpublished and unauthorized compendium of the lesser appreciated antics and behaviors of the male species of humanity. She was an ardent fan of the Green Bay Packers (and thought her brother's slight interest in the Vikings to be traitorous). She loved cats; Chester, her current feline companion, entertained and loved her with his behavior. Camilla will be remembered for her loving, generous heart, which she shared with all of her friends and family every opportunity she had. She is survived by her husband, Peter Crawford of Watertown; daughter, Nicole (Johannes) Hanson of Onalaska; grandson, Dominic Hanson; mother, Margaret Glasrud of Madison; brothers, Bruce (Pearlene) Glasrud of Seguin, Texas and David (Jane) Glasrud of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters, Judy Lynn of Sequim, Wash. and Karen (Doug) Wolf of Verona; and numerous nieces, nephews and much loved extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Leslie Glasrud of Madison; brother, Robert Glasrud of Omaha, Neb.; first husband, David Voll of Madison; and brother-in-law, Norm Lynn of Sequim, Wash. A memorial service will be held at ST. JAMES EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 427 S. Main Street, Verona, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Obituary: William Scott Toebaas -Class of 1969

MADISON - William Scott Toebaas died unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008. Born on May 27, 1951, Bill was a life-long resident of Madison. As a boy Bill loved fishing in Tenney Park, camping at Devil's Lake and summer vacations in the north woods of Wisconsin. Bill graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Wisconsin. He enjoyed participating in and watching all sports. As a high school athlete, he was named to the all-city football team and was a star baseball pitcher. Bill struggled with mental illness throughout his adult life. Although Bill struggled to cope with his own disability, his kind and gentle nature was obvious to those he interacted with, as he always wanted to help others in any way he could. Bill's unique and often brutally accurate perspective of life leaves us with a smile and an emptiness at the thought of what might have been. Bill is survived by his mother, Ruth Lieberman; and a sister, Anita, both of Madison. He is also survived by a brother, Jim of Sandpoint, Idaho; a sister, Dianna of McLean, Va.; and a nephew, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Toebaas; grandparents, Oscar and Inez Toebaas; and his stepfather, Joseph Lieberman. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, with Pastor John Swanson officiating, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Obituary: David V. Voll - Class of 1969

MADISON - David V. Voll passed away at age 54 on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, after an extended illness. He was born June 1, 1952, in Madison the son of Marie and Vernon Voll. David lived his entire life in Madison, a city he loved. He graduated from Central High School and attended Edgewood College to pursue a degree in accounting. He was a member of the National Guard and served for several years. David was employed in his early years by Coyle's Carpet, was a manager with AAMCO Transmission, and worked for some years with Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing as a sales representative. He later worked for the University of Wisconsin hospital system. David particularly enjoyed photography, music, writing letters, the summer months of the year, bicycling when his health was good, and movies of which he had an extensive collection. He will be missed by family and friends. He is survived by his brother, Thomas (Laura) C. Voll of Verona; a sister, Judith C. Toland; and nephew, Michael J. Toland of Reno, Nev. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie B. Voll; and his father, Vernon L. Voll. Private services will be held at a later date. Obituary: Clarence Harvey Goldsby - Class of 1969

MADISON - Clarence Harvey Goldsby, age 53, died on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in his home. He was born on Aug. 8, 1950, in Crowell, Texas, the son of Oliver and Juanita (Newman) Harvey. He graduated from Central High School in Madison, in 1969. Clarence loved to play the piano and was an avid chess player. Survivors include his mother, Juanita Gibson of Texas; five brothers, David (Annette Rogers) Goldsby, Kenneth (Shirley Files) Goldsby, Michael Goldsby and Jeffrey (Lisa) Goldsby, all of Madison, and Mark (Lisa) Goldsby of Marshall; a sister, Marchel (Edwin) Hill of Madison; his maternal grandmother, Delia Newman of Texas; two sisters-in-law, Janice Russell and Keri Behm, both of Madison; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, James Goldsby; his maternal grandfather; and his paternal grandparents. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the S.S. MORRIS COMMUNITY A.M.E. CHURCH, 3511 Milwaukee St. The Rev. Gregory Armstrong will officiate.
