Obituary: Joseph S. DiMaggio - Class of 1967

MCFARLAND [Wisconsin]  - Joseph S. DiMaggio, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. He was born in Madison, on Nov. 2, 1949, to Joseph and Audrey (Brockman) DiMaggio.  Joe grew up in Madison and went to Central High School. He then went on to own and operate DiMaggio's Good Year for many years. He later went on to work at Alliant Energy where he retired. Joe loved travel with his wife, Gerri, and his children, Tony and Angie. They visited many beautiful places. Family was the most important thing to Joe, especially his grandson, Eli, who he worshiped. He also loved sports. If you stopped by on a weekend you would see him watching the Badgers or NASCAR and if he wasn't home he was attending one of Eli's sporting events. Joe also was a very generous person and if anyone needed help he was always there for them.  When Joe was 16 he met the love of his life, the woman he would marry and spend the next 50 years with, Gerri M. Stapleman. They then went on to have two children, Tony and Angie.  Joe is survived by his two children, Tony (Yvonne Simms) of Evansville and Angie DiMaggio of McFarland; grandson, Eli; and many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.  Joe was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife, Gerri DiMaggio; his brother, Paul; and his nephews, Zachary and Jovanni.  Joe was loved and will be missed by many, but he is now reunited with his wife, Gerri, and many others who have passed. Joe is now at peace and pain free and although he is gone, he will forever be in our hearts. God bless you dad/grandpa, (as Eli put it) may you rest in peace until we meet again.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Obituary: Victoria "Vickie" (Prince) Rojo - Class of 1967

MADISON - Victoria "Vickie" (Prince) Rojo [age 67], loving mother of three, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Karmenta Nursing Home. She was born in Rice Lake, Wis., on Aug. 5, 1948, the daughter of Amy (Scherz) Shohet and Stacer Prince. She was a lifetime resident of Madison, a 1967 graduate of Madison Central High School and she attended Edgewood College. Vickie worked in nursing and health insurance throughout her life, retiring from WPS after 10 years. She was a selfless woman who shared her love of baking and cooking with those in need, offering a home cooked meal, a shoulder to cry on or a filled Christmas stocking. Always there for others, her children and grandchildren were her focus and she worked hard to support them. She will be sorely missed. Vickie is survived by her mother, Amy; her siblings, Robert (Lori) Prince, Lena Shohet and Zev (Neelika) Shohet; her daughters, Cecilia, Selina and Angelica Rojo; and seven grandchildren, Kiya, Dominic, Dezmen, Victoria, Jason, Christopher and Caden. She was preceded in death by her father, Stacer Prince; and brother, William Prince. Obituary: Susan J. Prouty - Class of 1967

ALBUQUERQUE / MADISON [Wisconsin] - Suli (Susan) J. Prouty, age 66, daughter of Dr. Lawrence Richard and Margaret (Martin) Prouty, sister of Rick, Mark and Doug (deceased), aunt of Lee and Tim, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016, in Albuquerque, N.M. She grew up in Madison but spent many years in Albuquerque. Services will be held at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, Albuquerque.

Obituary: Richard Alan Parisi - Class of 1967

MADISON - Richard Alan Parisi, age 66, of Madison, Wis., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. He was the son of Orlando and Mary (Masino) Parisi.

 Rich was born in Madison on Jan. 5, 1949. He was a graduate of Madison Central High School, class of '67, and went on to get a degree in history from the University of Wisconsin. His green thumb led him to work for Felly's Flowers in the greenhouse alongside our good friend, Stan Skolaski. He then obtained his Horticultural License and worked for the First Wisconsin Bank and all their branches taking care of plants indoors and out. Later in life he took a job as warehouse manager for Hill Electric. It was soon after that his health began to fail.

 Rich was a proud member of the Italian Workman's Club. His interests were varied. He liked working with plants in creating landscapes and gardens. He enjoyed taking trips with his longtime friend, Beth. He also wasn't shy about taking in a casino once in a while. On the last Sunday of each month he would meet for coffee with cousins, Jim, Ron, Carlo and his brother, Bob, if only to stay in touch with family.

He is survived by his brother, Bob, and many other cousins. He was preceded in death by both parents. Upon Rich's request, there will be no funeral service, but, a day to celebrate his life will be posted at a later date and time.

A special thanks goes out to all the nurses and doctors in the ICU, at the UW Hospital, for their attentive care and uplifting manner. I also want to thank our cousin, Gina Masino, for being there during this emotional ordeal.

HOBE SOUND, FLORIDA - Vicki L. Wakefield, 65, of Hobe Sound, Florida, died Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at The Manors of Hobe Sound in Hobe Sound, Florida. Born in San Bernardino, California, she had been a Florida resident for 25 years, coming from Madison, Wisconsin. Survivors include her son, Jacob Wakefield, of Stuart, Florida; and one sister, Karen L. DuCharme, of Madison. Obituary: Richard Neal Sweet - Class of 1967

MADISON - Richard Neal Sweet died of melanoma in Madison, on Monday, April 7, 2014.

Dick was born in Madison to Ben Sweet and Miriam (Gast) Sweet on Jan. 10, 1949, and was a lifelong Madison resident. He graduated from Lincoln grade school, Central High, UW-Madison, and UW Law School. Dick worked as an attorney for 36 years for the Wisconsin Legislative Council, a job that he enjoyed involving a mix of law and public policy. He specialized in health law, veterans issues, and administrative rules, and was widely respected for his work with the Wisconsin Legislature as well as the National Conference of State Legislatures. He retired in 2011 and enjoyed time reading, cooking, doing volunteer work, auditing UW classes, taking his collie, Riley, to dog parks, and spending time with family and friends. He was an ardent fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and UW sports.

While they were both working in the Legislature, Dick and Judy Zvara began dating and were married on a beautiful fall day in 1982 at the University Club on State Street. That day, October 3, was also the day the Milwaukee Brewers sealed their inclusion in the 1982 playoffs. Dick and Judy spent part of their honeymoon cheering for the Brewers at the World Series in Milwaukee.

Dick and Judy loved camping, cross-country skiing, and traveling; their pre-child adventures included a month-long trip to the British Isles. They enjoyed vacationing with their children at Disney World, Longboat Key, Fla., and many road trips in between. The family favorite was the annual trip "Up North" to northern Wisconsin with friends. Dick was known for his kindness, his humility, his even-handed and analytical approach to issues great and small, his dry wit, and his legendary knowledge of 50s and 60s rock music.

Dick is survived by his wife, Judy Zvara; children, Kathryn and David Sweet; and grandson, Oliver Sweet. Riley the collie already misses Dick's loving companionship. Dick is further survived by his sister, Linda Sweet; uncle, Morris Sweet (Helen); cousins, Pauline Sinnamon (Jim), Mark Sweet (Lynn), Nan Roytberg (Dimitry), and Mona Carver (David); sister-in-law, Carol Gobel; niece, Kristina Gobel (Steve Burgun) and their children, Matthew and Michael; and nephew, Gregory Gobel.

The family thanks the many friends with whom we have spent wonderful times through the years and who provided so much support during Dick's illness.

A gathering to celebrate Dick's life will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the UNIVERSITY CLUB, 803 State St., in Madison.

Obituary: JoAnn Shirley (Kinder) Gray - Class of 1967

MADISON - Joann Shirley Gray, age 64, passed away Nov. 30, 2013, after a very long struggle with temporal lobe dementia. She was born Feb. 9, 1949, in Stoughton, daughter of Clifford and Shirley (Stickle) Kinder. Joann married Terry Gray on July 28, 1984, in Madison. She graduated from Central High School in 1967. After high school, Joann worked at WPS for nearly 20 years. Later she worked for Oscar Mayer and then Kraft Foods. Joann enjoyed crafts, flower gardening and interior design.

She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years Terry Gray; children, Troy Clifcorn and Melissa (Sean) Collins; grandchildren, Ashley (Cody) Welbig, Holley Schultz, Brok and Aspen Clifcorn, Kayley and Shelby Collins; sisters, Judy Schwoch and Janalyn Du Bois;and brothers, Jerry and Jim ( Deborah) Kinder. Joann was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 East Washington, Madison. Obituary: David W. Bowers - Class of 1967

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - David W. Bowers 3/15/49-1/19/11 Sound engineer extraordinaire, fine friend, unique human being. We will miss his love, humor, physical energy and vibrant life force. In 1971, after combat service with the Marine Corps in Vietnam, Dave began his career as a sound engineer in Santa Cruz. His attention to detail and dedication to the highest standards of his craft led to tours with the Doobie Brothers, Kenny Loggins and Toto, among others. Returning to the Bay area in 1984, he joined IATSE Local 134 and was hired by Promedia Ultrasound. His sensitive ear and impeccable work ethic led to gigs with Luciano Pavarotti, the Three Tenors, Andrea Bocelli, the Irish Tenors, the SF Opera and the SF Symphony. His last gig, before he succumbed to colon cancer, was the East Bay Symphony's November, 2010 concert with Carlos Santana and Narada Michael Walden. MADISON - Therese Anne (Accardo) Cuccia, age 59, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at the HospiceCare Center, in Fitchburg after a battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 8, 1949, in Madison. Therese was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. She was a devout Catholic who shared her beliefs with everyone. It was her strongest desire that we all join her in heaven someday. MADISON - Michael W. Connery, age 56, died Thursday, April 27, 2006, in his home. He was born July 15, 1949, in Madison, the son of Maurice and Lucille (O'Donnell) Connery. Mike was proud of being in the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in Vietnam, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a longtime employee of Bev's Restaurant, had driven for Madison Taxi for several years, and in the early 80s Mike was employed by J. W. Connery Painting for several years. Mike also enjoyed woodworking, dancing and movies. Survivors include three sisters, Bev Philumalee of Marshall, Mary (Roger) Claus of Pewaukee and Sandra (James) Bancroft of Rio; seven brothers, Donald (Lisa) Connery of Madison, Joseph (Linda Bailey) Connery of Middleton, Emmett (Jo Ann) Connery of Sayner, Thomas (Beverly) Connery of Brooklyn, Tim (Randi) Connery of Cottage Grove, Patrick Connery of McFarland and Jerome (Patty) Connery of Sun Prairie; three sisters-in-law, Carol Mae, Shirley and Mary Connery; a brother-in-law, Lenny Small; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Obituary: Sonja A. White - Class of 1967

MADISON - Sonja A. White, age 57, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at the University Hospital Burn Unit from injuries sustained in a fire at her apartment on Feb. 2, 2006. She was raised by her mother, Erna White and her stepfather, John Giblin. She spent the years of her youth in both California and Wisconsin. She graduated from Central High School. For several years, she worked at the 511 Club House in downtown Madison. She loved gardening, baking and her cats. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and stepfather, and by her always supportive friend, Lynn Pilla. She is survived by her son, Shayne White of Madison; her partner of 14 years, Larry Loofboro of Madison; her best friend, Debbie (Kelly) Knutson; and her neighbors, Sandy and Dave Pishion. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of the DON AND MARILYN ANDERSON HOSPICECARE CENTER, 5395 East Cheryl Parkway, Madison. She was a secretary for a high risk unit at Madison General Hospital for many years. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Thomas Gentile, Newark Valley, N.Y.; three daughters, Andrea, Kaila and Mary Gentile, all of Newark Valley, N.Y.; a brother, Lowell LaMore, Madison; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. MADISON - Robert W. "Bob" Arndt, age 55, passed away at his home with his sons by his side on Tuesday, June 15, 2004. He was born on March 4, 1949, in Madison, the son of William and Darlene (Johnston) Arndt. For the last 25 years, Bob was a carpenter with the Madison Metropolitan School District. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, to name just a few of his pastimes. Most of all he enjoyed spending time around the kitchen table with his family and friends. He is survived by his two sons, Joseph (Melisa) Arndt of Rio, and David Arndt of Madison, their mother, Dawn (Jerry) Reiter of McFarland; and two precious granddaughters, Olivia and Lily Arndt of Rio. Obituary: Robert G. Snell

MADISON - So many time we use and hear analogies comparing life to sports. Words like courage, strength, and loyalty are used many times in both sports and life. But Robert G. Snell - more affectionately known as Grandpa Bob, Bubba, Bobby and Mustang Snelly, took these words he heard during his career of football and actually lived them along the way. Born on March 4, 1949, in Madison, as the youngest of seven children, Bob spent the first quarter of his life playing football. Bob played football at Central High School in Madison, continued at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, then played for the semi-professional team, the Madison Mustangs, and even continued his love by playing on a championship touch football team. It was during this time that Bob developed strong bonds with friends, bonds that would continue throughout his lifetime and beyond. During the second quarter of his life, Bob took all the values he had learned and applied them to his life while raising his sons, Jim, Chad and Bret, and eventually his grandchildren, Jessica, Parker and Tag. His relationship with his children, grandchildren, mates, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, friends, and coworkers was one of continual love, hard work, commitment, and loyalty. During the third quarter of Bob's life, he took everything he loved and learned from football and gave it back to his other love, children. Bob always felt the need to give something back, that was important in his life. Bob took his love for kids, football and socializing and put it all together in one program, and that was the St. Francis Youth Football Program. Through this program, Bob impacted the lives of many children and young adults as he coached them not only about football, but about life. Unfortunately, Bob's fourth quarter ended early when he died on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, after battling a long illness. He will be joining his mom and dad, Irene and Maurice. Bob, however, lived his philosophy of life to the end - his strength, character, courage and loyalty to loved ones kept him in the game and always will. You can join Bob's family and friends in celebrating the memory of his life on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, in Madison. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, with a memorial service from noon until 1 p.m., and a luncheon will follow.

Bob Snell's class year is based on information in the 1967 Tychoberahn, where he is listed among the members of the June graduating class.

Obituary: Margo D. (Kanvik) Roberts - Class of 1967

MADISON - Margo D. Roberts, age 53, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, Aug. 26, 2002. Margo was born in Madison on May 15, 1949, the daughter of Percy and Gretchen Kanvik. Margo married William L. Roberts in Middleton, in October 1991. She began her career at WMTV Channe15 and continued at WISC-TV Channel 3 until she retired following a stroke. Margo and Bill were enthusiasts of horse racing, including several annual trips to the Kentucky Derby. She loved traveling and Christmas with her family and many friends. She is survived by her sister, Kathy (David) Rosenow of Middleton; a niece, Daniellel (Kent) Lawson of Madison; a great-niece and great-nephew, Emily and Nicholas Lawson;and aunt and uncle, Elizabeth "Lib" and Arthur Schultheis of Madison; a brother-in-law, Tom Roberts- of Madison; and his daughters, Bonnie and Barbara. Margo; is also survived by a special cousin, Tad Kanvik and his family; and special friends Barb Swenson, Kathy Idsvoog, .and David and Suzy Sanks.Margo was preceded in death by her husband, , parents and several uncles and/ aunts. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2002, at 2 p.m. at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, A visitation will be held on Friday from 12,:30 p.m. until' the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
