Obituary: Victor Henry Cramer

MADISON - Victor Henry Cramer, age 91, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2005, at St. Marys Care Center, Madison. Victor was born on Jan. 7, 1914, the son of John and Ella (Voelkel) Cramer. He attended and graduated from Central High School. He was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church. Victor worked as a maintenance foreman for the City of Madison Parks Department for 42 years before retiring in 1978. He was a past president of the City Employee Union Local 60 and a past executive board member of AFSME Council 40. Victor was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post No. 1318. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara (Joseph) Dedrick of Montello, Vicki (Robert) Femrite, Denise (William) Curtin and Kim (Bob Ellis) Cramer all of Madison; three sons, Scott (Kathryn) Cramer, Kent Cramer and Jan Cramer, all of Madison; a sister, Evelyn Schreier of LaCrosse; a brother, Helmar Brown of Finley Park, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and Mitzy, his pet companion for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice, on Dec. 31, 1997; and a grandson, Chad Dedrick. Mass of Christian burial will take place at the IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield Ave., Monona, on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John Meinholz will celebrate. Obituary: Carol A. (Riddle) Timbers - Class of 1960

MADISON - Carol A. Timbers, age 63, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, in a local care center. She was born June 30, 1942, daughter of Ernest and Frances (Goltz) Riddle. Prior to her retirement in 2003, Carol had been employed by the state of Wisconsin as a data processing supervisor. She was an avid card player and loved to spend time reading. Survivors include her husband, Neil of Madison; a son, James Timbers of Madison; a sister, Mary Larson; and a brother, Roger (Elsie) Riddle both of Nekoosa. She was preceded in death by her parents. Obituary: Jerome "Jerry" Hoffman - Class of 1931

MADISON/ PARSONS, KAN. - Jerome K. "Jerry" Hoffman, age 92, former longtime Madison resident, died on Monday, April 25, 2005, in Parsons, Kan., where he had resided since March 2001. He was born on March 20, 1913, in Madison, to Frank J. and Lillian J. (Kelly) Hoffman. Jerry grew up and attended schools in Madison, graduating from Madison Central High School in 1931. He also attended the University of Wisconsin. For a time, Jerry worked for his father as a plumber. He later owned and operated the Pure Oil Gas Station, and worked at the former Manchester Department Store, before going to work at Bancroft Dairy in 1937. For several years, Jerry owned and operated the Dane County Dairy until retiring in 1978. After his retirement, he was active in Boy Scouts, and was a member of the Southwest Men's Club, Madison Masonic Lodge, Zor Shrine, and the Elk's Lodge. Jerry and Kathlyn Cass were married on Aug. 31, 1936. She preceded him in death in 1965. Jerry and Lorraine Feiler were married in 1966. She preceded him in death in 1996. Jerry is survived by a son, Walter B. "Wally" (Dianne) Hoffman of Parsons, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and a step-daughter, Barb (Gary) Powers of Cottage Grove. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by infant twin daughters; and a sister, Laverne Murphy. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2005. Obituary: William "Bill" Schweinem - Class of 1940

MADISON - William "Bill" J. Schweinem, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at St. Marys Care Center. Bill was born to Henry W. and Sena (Knudtson) Schweinem on Dec. 24, 1922, in Madison. He was a graduate of Central High School in 1940 and a proud graduate of UW-Madison in 1947. Bill served as a B-24 bombardier in World War II in the 5th Air Force of the U.S. Army-Air Corps. Bill worked for the credit department at Oscar Mayer from 1947 to 1985. He was also a very active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He made many contributions to the church such as assisting with the choir in which he also sang in, assisted as a reader and server as well. Bill dedicated his life to the church and did many wonderful things for many people at the church. He was a former golfer, bowler and model railroader. Bill was also a season ticket holder at Camp Randall Stadium since 1945. Bill is survived by his nephew, Tom (Sue) Ernser and their daughter, Megan of Madison; niece, Kathleen (Phil) Ernser-Norton of Argyle; two cousins, Ray Knudtson of Madison, and Dick (Inger) Doll of Madison; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Elizabeth Ernser. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held HOLY REDEEMER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 120 W. Obituary: Joseph Cordio

OREGON - Joseph Cordio, age 72, died on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at his home, in Oregon. He was born on June 16, 1933, in Madison, son of John and Edith (Haskins) Cordio. He graduated from Central High School and worked many years as an ironworker. He was on the board of the local ironworkers union. He served in the U.S. Marines in the Korean Conflict. Joe enjoyed bingo, golfing and especially watching the Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline (Ruben) Ochoa of Madison; three grandchildren, Mariano Dompablo, Melissa Dompablo and Damian Dompablo; a sister, Charlotte (Horace) Russo of Madison; a brother, James (Evelyn) Cordio Sr. of Belleville; and a brother-in-law, Russell Pien Sr. of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Lynn; two brothers, Frank and John Jr.; and two sisters, Caroline Pien and Edith Kozak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. Obituary: Mary Jo (Morrell) Nordness - Class of 1937

MADISON - Mary Jo Nordness, age 86, died peacefully at Meriter Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, July 2, 2005. Born in Madison, on Nov. 24, 1918, to Samuel and Marie Morrell, she was the second of eight daughters. A graduate of Madison Central High School, she also attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mary Jo and Orvin (Orv) Nordness Sr. married on June 17, 1944. Mary Jo worked for many years at Dane County Social Services and later at the University of Wisconsin Survey Research Laboratory. Orv and Mary Jo cherished a 55 year long friendship with three couples, she will be greatly missed at their card games and annual New Year's Eve dinner. Mary Jo was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be deeply mourned by her husband, Orvin; her sons, Orvin "Skip" (Alicia) Nordness Jr. and Craig (Jane) Nordness; grandchildren, Eric, Amy and Anne Nordness; her sister, Peg Sullivan; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents and six sisters preceded her in death. Obituary: Elaine Margery (Adams) Boyle - Class of 1942

HEMET, CALIF./ MADISON - Elaine Margery (Adams) Boyle, age 80, born July 1, 1924, in Underwood, N.D., passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 19, 2005, in Fountain Valley, Calif., after fighting the debilitating disease of Alzheimer's for more than nine years. She was born the sixth child to Alfred and Edna Adams. The family moved to Madison in 1925. She attended Madison Central High School (Class of '42). She met Jack Boyle at Central (Class of '41) and they eventually married at the end of World War II. In 1953, three years after Jack graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the family moved to Sun Prairie. In 1967, they sold their house and business and moved to Long Beach, Calif. In 1990, they retired and bought a house in Hemet, California. Her loving husband of 53 years preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Virgil Adams of Puyallup, Wash.; and three sisters, Evelyn Burton of Stoughton, Doris Welton of Stevens Point and Ruby Schulze of Cottage Grove. She is survived by a sister, Mildred Johnson of Cypress, Calif.; her four children, John (Pam) Boyle of Fullerton, Calif., Susan (Tom) Trani of Fountain Valley, Calif., Sally (George) Monsoor of Garden Grove, Calif., and Kathleen Larson of Costa Mesa, Calif.; an un-officially adopted daughter, Esmeralda (Totoy) Gomez of Norwood, N.J.; "Meldy," a foreign exchange student from the Philippines who lived with the family for the school year 1965-1966; two brothers-in-law, Judd Welton of Stevens Point and Tom Brady of El Segundo, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Lucy Boyle of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Elaine "Nana" also leaves behind 10 loving grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 25, 2005, at Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary, 3888 S. Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601. Elaine will be remembered and dearly missed by all that knew her. She will always be remembered as a beautiful lady and someone that always brought smiles to everyone's face when she entered a room.

Obituary: Virginia (Snell) Schuh

MADISON - Virginia L. Schuh, age 64, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2005. Devotion is a word which is tossed around casually by many people. To Virginia "Gin" Schuh, devotion was not just a word, but a life choice that she took seriously. Gin's life came full circle. She was devoted to her family, friends, work and life passions, which encompassed her life. The first chapter of Gins life began on Nov. 3, 1940. She grew up on the south side of Madison, where she graduated from Central High School. It was there that Gin learned the devotion of family and also the love of dance (especially the jitterbug), books, movies, theater and cooking The second chapter of Gin's life surpassed any novel that she read. She had the opportunity to travel and explore the world. This was the chapter where the devotion of her family began to take root. Gin had four children, Linda, Tammy, Denise and Michael. In turn she was blessed with nine grandchildren, Amber, John, Jessica, Matthew, Dakota, Josh, Anna, Tristan and Simon. It didnt stop because "Grandma," as all of her grandkids knew her, was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Isaiah; and a son-in-law, Tim. Throughout her life, Gin showed her devotion being committed to her family, friends, church, many community organizations and the elderly. She was a strong, loving, and selfless person who continually gave of herself to others; including her work with Amvets and her employment at the Willows Nursing Home. Virginia will be joining her mom and dad, Irene and Maurice; and her brother Robert. She leaves behind sisters, Helen, Delcie, and Mary Lou; and brothers, Mike and Mark. If an epilogue were to be written for her life, however, it would read how Gin's devotion surpassed her death, as she will continue to be a source of love and support to her family, friends, and all the people whose lives she has touched. Obituary: Lois Ann (Torgeson) Hammond - Class of 1944

MADISON - Lois Ann Hammond, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Legacy Gardens. She was born on June 22, 1926, in Madison, daughter of Gustave and Esther (Berg) Torgeson. She graduated from Central High, and then went on to Madison Business College. She married Lovell L. Hammond on Dec. 7, 1946, in Madison. Lois was a secretary for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue for 39 years, retiring in 1987. She was a past member of the Knitter's Guild, and a current member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Choir and Esther Circle. Lois and Ham were also members of 4-Lakes Yacht Club, Monona. Lois is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Paul) Markey of Arlington, Vt.; her brother, Ralph Torgeson of Madison; her niece, Carol Zwickey; her sister-in-law, Hilda Poole of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. Obituary: Francis "Joe" Schadauer - Class of 1944

MADISON - Francis "Joe" Schadauer died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack on Tuesday, June 7, 2005. He was born on Jan. 4, 1927, in Madison, to Julius and Anna (Haas) Schadauer. He attended grade school at Holy Redeemer School, and graduated with the class of 1944 from Central High School. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Joe graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1950 as an electrical engineer, and especially enjoyed playing in the marching band. He married Louise Cooper on June 20, 1959, and they had one son, Michael. Joe spent most of his working years maintaining electronic equipment for the University of Wisconsin Medical School, retiring in 1993. He was a train buff and enjoyed riding the trains of U.S.A., Canada, Mexico and continental Europe. Joe was still playing softball and had spent Memorial Day weekend playing in the U.S.A. Volleyball Tournament in Denver with the over 75 league. He was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, being an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He is survived by his wife, Louise; his son, Michael (Elise), and two grandsons, Wilson and Jonah, all of Minneapolis. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CHURCH, 405 S. Owen Drive, Madison, on Friday, June 10, 2005, at 11 a.m. Monsignor Ken Fiedler and the Rev.
