Obituary: Phil Ray - Class of 1960

MADISON - Phil Ray, age 64, of Madison, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 2, 2007. He was born on July 10, 1942, to Newell and Ethelyn Ray. Phil was a Naval Veteran and a recent retiree from Madison Metro after 41 years. He enjoyed camping, bowling and was an avid card player, playing cribbage every Thursday at the American Legion Post No. 1318. Phil was also legal guardian of his disabled brother for the past 10 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, offering to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. Phil is survived by his wife of 39 years, Fran; his two sons, Michael (Linda) of Sun Prairie and Jim (Jennifer) of Windsor; six grandchildren, Hailey, Hillary, Hope, Jordan, Tyler and Hannah; and 10 brothers and sisters, Paul, Eleanor, Ruth, Russell, Jeanette, Gordon, Susan, Joleen, Cheryl and Rita. Phil was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens with military rites. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 517 N.
