Obituary: Bertha L. Thrun

ELKHORN - Bertha L. Thrun, age 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, in Elkhorn. Bertha was born Aug. 6, 1917, in Wood County, to parents, August W. and Marie (Benner) Thrun. She attended grade school at Progress School in Wood County, continued high school at Marshfield for a year and graduated from Madison Central in Madison. Bertha furthered her education by receiving her B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her master's from the University of Wisconsin-Stoughton. She was a teacher at the VoTech school in Eau Claire. Approximately 1970, Bertha came to the Walworth area, where she was an instructor at Christian League for the Handicap. She was a volunteer for the Walworth County RSVP and the Christian League Handicap income tax preparation for seniors. Bertha was active at the Calvary Community Church of Williams Bay and her free time was spent reading, cooking, making crafts and dining out. She is survived by nieces, Kathleen (Steers) Eichelkraut of Platteville, Betty (Stasney) Eichelkraut of Alma Center, Anna Marie (Brockman) Eichelkraut of Waunakee and Marlaine White of Eau Claire; nephews, Henry Eichelkraut of Bellville, Martin White of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Matthew White of Madison; and cousins, Marie Nobbs of Stoughton, John and Alice Benner of Marshfield, Norma Thrun of McFarland and Janet Benner of Marshfield. Services for Bertha Thrun will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at TOYNTON FUNERAL HOME, in Walworth. Visitation will be prior to the service. Private interment will be in the Nasonville Lutheran Cemetery in Marshfield.
