Obituary: John Charles Rieder

MADISON - John Charles Rieder, age 96, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009. He was born on Dec. 27, 1912, in Madison, the son of John P. "Shorty" and Etta Rieder. John graduated from Madison Central High School. He served as chief engineer and top turret gunner on a B17 bomber, during World War II. John was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was involved in Madison area sports for many years and was an avid sports fan. John also enjoyed gardening and fishing. John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ethel, of Verona; daughters, Kathleen (Ronald) Norder, of Verona, and Jan (Roger) Coltrin, of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Michael (Rachel) Norder, of Port Washington, Michelle (Thomas) Pietrzak, of Sherwood, and Paige (Ronald) Crosby, of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jessie, Sydney and Charles Norder, of Port Washington, Connor and Carley Pietrzak, of Sherwood, and Kristin, Eric, Kara and David Crosby, of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Rieder; and stepmother, Maude Rieder. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m., until the time of the service on Tuesday. A special thank you to Sheri, Kathleen, Toni, Jim and Merlyn for their care and friendship.
