Obituary: Bernice M. (Nigles) Krouse - Class of 1938

MADISON - Bernice M. Krouse, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009. She was born on Nov. 4, 1920, in Madison, the daughter of Peter and Marie (Larson) Nigles. Bernice was a 1938 graduate of Central High School. She married Carl Krouse of Muscoda on Dec. 8, 1945, in Madison. Bernice enjoyed spending time with family and was always ready for a family get-together. She worked for the Telephone Company, Farm Bureau and later Gimbels. She was a faithful member of St. Bernard Catholic Church for more than 60 years. Bernice was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 501, Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary and the Veterans Education Committee. She was also a member of the Tony Rocker Fan Club. Bernice is survived by her daughter, Barb (Pat) McEvilly; four grandchildren, Michelle (Rick Olson) McEvilly, Michael (Katherine) McEvilly, Paul McEvilly and Patrick McEvilly; a great-grandson, Lucas, who was dear to her heart; also special to her were Tristan, Kathryn and Heather; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many extended family. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; three sisters, Irene Schuchardt, Gladys Erickson and Eleanor Hilgart; and two nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2009, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2009, and at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church, HospiceCare Foundation, or the American Legion Auxiliary No. 501.
