Obituary: John E. Carden

POYNETTE/MADISON - John E. Carden, age 90, of Poynette, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at home. He was born on Feb. 9, 1918, in Madison, the son of John and Ida (Greenwood) Carden. John graduated from Madison Central High School. He married Nathalie Morse on June 29, 1941, at First Methodist Church in Madison. John worked for Madison Newspapers/Capital Times for more than 45 years, beginning as a paperboy and retiring as a mail room foreman. He was a member of Bashford United Methodist Church, and an assistant scout master of Boy Scout Troop No. 29, at Bashford. John was also a member of the Wisconsin Region Model A Ford Club and Model T Ford Club. He won first place and best of show with the Model A Roadster that he restored. John was an active spouse of a Telephone Pioneer, and enjoyed making and presenting gavels for each Telephone Pioneer president. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. John trained and showed his chocolate Labrador, winning several competitions. He volunteered at Meriter, St. Mary's and VA Hospitals, and March of Dimes Walk America. John is survived by his wife, Nathalie; daughter, Jeanne Mueller; grandchildren, Heather, Heidi and Kristoffer; three great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Lynn Carden; a sister, Dorothy Lloyd; beloved dog, Razz-ma-tazz; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John E. Carden III; and a sister, Bernadine McCormick. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
