Obituary: Alice Krug Kendall MacDonald

MADISON - Alice Krug Kendall MacDonald, age 92, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at the Harbor House Assisted Living Facility in Madison. The second youngest of the seven children of Julius J. Krug and Emma Korfmacher, Alice outlived all of her siblings and their respective spouses as well as both parents. The death of her youngest child, Ken MacDonald, at the age of 40 was a sorrow she carried to the end of her life. She also unexpectedly lost her only grandson, Tony Kendall, who was 29 at the time of his death. Alice is survived by three children, Kay, Doug and Lynn Kendall, all of Madison; her granddaughter, Rae Leigh Kendall Daun, also of Madison; and three great-grandsons, Karl and Jacob Kendall Daun of Madison and Sean Kendall of Wisconsin Dells. Her father, Julius Krug, was a well known law enforcement figure in Madison, serving on the police force early in the last century and as Dane County Sheriff for two terms in the 1920's. Alice spent many years living in the Sheriff's residence next to the old jail and had many stories of the animals which shared her home and of the very active and adventuresome Krug siblings. Throughout her professional life she was an art teacher of unusual talent and inspiration in the Madison Public School System. After her retirement she finally had the time to seriously pursue her own talents as a painter and won various state and local prizes for her work. She gave two essential gifts to her children: to recognize and celebrate both created and natural beauty in the world and to develop their own talents in whatever area they resided. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at LIVING WATER CHURCH, 3075 Prospect Dr in Sun Prairie. Pastor Jon Gerdts will officiate. All guests are invited to a luncheon at the church following the service. The family would like to thank Glen Rosen, the staffs at Sylvan Crossings and Harbor House, and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, 630 E. Washington Ave., Madison. All Faiths Funeral and Cremation Services Madison (608) 442-0477
