Obituary: Doris I. (Skaar) Archie

COTTAGE GROVE - Doris I. Archie, age 69, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at HospiceCare Inc. Doris was born on Sept. 14, 1936, in Stoughton, the daughter of Thomas and Gladys (Stickle) Skaar. She graduated from Central High School and the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Doris was united in marriage with Daniel Archie on Dec. 27, 1958, in Cottage Grove. She was a longtime resident of Cottage Grove. Her career as a teacher spanned 31 years. Doris taught full-time for 18 years in the Madison Metropolitan Schools until her retirement in June 1999. She was very active at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church by serving as superintendent of Sunday School, financial secretary, deacon, elder, church choir, chairman of the Christian education and stewardship community and working in the church food pantry. Doris loved gardening, nature, travel and especially being with her family. Survivors include her husband, Daniel; a son, Daniel (Stacy) Archie of Walton, Ky.; a daughter, Sarah (Art) Smith of Redmond, Wash.; four grandsons, Alex and Austin Smith, and Nicholas and Jack Archie; a brother, Wesley (Lois) Skaar of Cottage Grove; three sisters-in-law, Ellen Skaar of Cottage Grove, Thelma Skaar of Stoughton, and Carol Archie of Winnetka, Ill.; a special niece, Vickie (Otto) Kraus of Iowa City, Iowa; nephews and nieces, Larry (Cindy) Harvey, John (Ann) and Steve (Gail) Skaar, Linda (Mark) Everson, Father Andrew (Daisy), Tim (Jenny) and Kit (Kim) Archie; a special great niece, Stacy (John) Bembinster; and great-great-nephew, Joseph Kraus. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Gordon, Eugene and Robert. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 24, 2006, at BRYN MAWR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 229 N. Main St., Cottage Grove, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service. The Rev. John Zingaro will officiate.
