Obituary: Mary B. (Lawry) Varese

MADISON [Wisconsin] - Mary B. Varese, age 80, of Madison, died on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Karmenta Nursing Home. She was born on May 20, 1921, in Madison, to Daniel and Anna (Macaig) Lawry. Mary graduated from Madison Central High School. She married Salvatore "Sam" Varese. Mary was employed as a clerk for the United States Armed Forces Institute until her retirement. She was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church and VFW Post No. 7591 Women's Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed bingo, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also bowled in a couples league with her husband. Mary is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Ken) Dyer of Madison; her sons, Earl Varese of Billings, Mont., Jon Varese of Stevens Point, and Joe Varese of Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, John (Diane) Lawry of Elroy, Wis. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a sister, Virginia Lawry. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, with Father Kent Schmitt presiding.
