MADISON - Jane E. Martin died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Capitol Lakes Retirement Center, Madison. She was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Eugene and Elizabeth (Klewer) Martin. Jane graduated from Madison Central High School and began her career at Rayovac and later worked for the state of Wisconsin. She was employed in the Highway Division of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, where she advanced to an administrative position before her retirement. She volunteered in the gift shop at St. Mary's and Meriter hospitals for many years and was employed part time at the Monona branch of the Madison Public Library after retiring. Jane enjoyed golf, bowling, travel and was an avid Cubs fan. A member of St. Raphael's since childhood, Jane was a devout Catholic. She served as President of the Catholic Daughters of America and was active in many church related organizations including the St. Raphael Altar Society. She was associated with the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary. Jane was a devoted daughter, caring for her mother for many years before her death in 1981. She was a loving aunt and cousin who had a keen interest in her extended family. Jane will be remembered as a kind, generous woman who loved and served God and her neighbor. She is survived by sister-in-law, Avis Martin; nephews, Dennis (Kim) Martin; Patrick (Lynn) Martin, and Brendan Martin, all of Mukwonago; a niece, Kate (Chris) Conrad, Milwaukee; a first cousin, Mary C. Foegen, Winona, Minn.; and other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her brother, James J. Martin, in 2003, and two other brothers in infancy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 E. Main St., Madison, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Monsignor Kevin Holmes and the Rev. Monsignor Douglas Dushack concelebrating. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Graveside services to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Raphael Cathedral Parish. The family would like to thank the staff at Meriter Health Services and Capitol Lakes Retirement Center for their kindness.
