MCFARLAND - Charles L. "Chuck" Thompson, age 75, passed away on Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at Serenity House, DeForest, after a 14 year battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on Nov. 16, 1932, in Madison, the son of Luther and Josephine (Caruso) Thompson. Chuck grew up in "The Bush". His love in life centered around his family and the sport of gymnastics. Chuck went to Central High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he competed in gymnastics. He served in the U.S. Army. Chuck enjoyed his profession as an iron worker for 50 years and during that time he served as president of Iron Workers Local 383 for 22 years. He was a member of Madison Turners, participated in volleyball and gymnastics, and helped to teach many young people the value of the sports he loved. He and his wife, Ruth enjoyed traveling, gardening and had many good friends. Chuck is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth; four children, Charles Thompson, Mark Thompson, Cathy Thompson and Amie Thompson; seven grandchildren, Alex and Nicholas Thompson, Chrissianna, Wilbert and Lieisha Davis and Brett and Scott Kelley; and sisters, Joanne Brandel and Patty McGuire. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jim Thompson. A Memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., at 4 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m until the time of the service on Saturday. Chuck will be missed greatly by his family and many of his friends.
