MADISON - Lois Ann Hammond, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Legacy Gardens. She was born on June 22, 1926, in Madison, daughter of Gustave and Esther (Berg) Torgeson. She graduated from Central High, and then went on to Madison Business College. She married Lovell L. Hammond on Dec. 7, 1946, in Madison. Lois was a secretary for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue for 39 years, retiring in 1987. She was a past member of the Knitter's Guild, and a current member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Choir and Esther Circle. Lois and Ham were also members of 4-Lakes Yacht Club, Monona. Lois is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Paul) Markey of Arlington, Vt.; her brother, Ralph Torgeson of Madison; her niece, Carol Zwickey; her sister-in-law, Hilda Poole of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; and her parents. A funeral service will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., at noon on Friday, June 17 2005, with the Rev. Mark Bartels presiding. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, Cottage Grove. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Friday.Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc., or the American Lung Association.
