MADISON - John R. "Jack" Hammond, age 71, died on Friday, Aug. 6, 2004. He was born on June 18, 1933, in Madison, to Regina (Braun) and Howard Hammond. Jack graduated from Madison Central High School. He served in the U.S. Navy between 1952 and 1956, and was a veteran of the Korean War. Jack married Barb Maloney on May 4, 1957, at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Madison. He was an arborist for the city of Madison for 38 years. Jack was a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 1318, and South Side Men and Women's Club. He is survived by his wife, Barb of Madison; two daughters, Regina (Jeff) Mauel of Brooklyn, and Laura Hammond of Stoughton; a granddaughter, Jessica Hammond of Madison; a brother, Jerome (Ali) Hammond of Madison; a sister, Jean Foster of Downers Grove, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim; and a sister, Patty Cierpiot. A memorial visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9, 2004. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc.
