Obituary: Judith Ann "Judy" (Neuhauser) Baumgartner - Class of 1953

MADISON - Judith Ann "Judy" Baumgartner passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015, after a valiant seven-and-a-half year struggle with the devastating effects of Encephalitis. Judy was born May 18, 1935, at Madison General Hospital, to her parents, George Neuhauser and Esther (Schulz) Neuhauser. She graduated from Madison Central High School in 1953. Judy married the love of her life, Paul F. Baumgartner, on July 11, 1959, at Luther Memorial Church in Madison. They went on to have two children, Michael and Heidi. Judy dedicated her life to her husband and their children, thoroughly enjoying her role as a homemaker throughout her lifetime. She also had many other interests. She cherished time spent with her beloved family and friends. She had a lifelong interest in politics, often volunteering her time. She enjoyed traveling very much, from short Sunday road trips to crossing the country to touring Europe. She adored animals of all kinds, especially her precious cats throughout the years. Judy is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Paul F. Baumgartner; her son, Michael (Tonia) Baumgartner; her daughter, Heidi (Chris) Baumgartner Bonnaffon; her granddaughter, Amelia; brother-in-law, Herbert Baumgartner; sister-in-law, Patricia Baumgartner; sister-in-law, Carol Neuhauser; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lois Matt; and her brother, Dr. Charles Neuhauser. Special thanks go out to the kind staff at New Glarus Home, especially Dr. Styles, for their compassionate care of Mom throughout her illness. Services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Franklin Wilson presiding. Judy will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make a donation in Judy's memory to the Dane County Humane Society or to the New Glarus Home in New Glarus.

Obituary: Jospeh C. "Buffo" Cerniglia - Class of 1953

MADISON - Joseph C. "Buffo" Cerniglia passed away on April 12, 2015, at the Agrace HospiceCare.

Joe was born on Sept. 25, 1935, to Charles and Georgia (Schiro) Cerniglia. He proudly grew up in the Greenbush and graduated from Central High in 1953. Upon graduation, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Korea. In the mid 60's Joe was one of the co-founders of the Madison Mustangs semi-pro football team and served as their general manager for many years.

Joe had a deep appreciation for his Italian heritage and was a member of the Italian Workmen's Club. He had an incredible memory, sense of humor and loved entertaining friends and family with his storytelling. Joe was also known for his great Italian cooking and his famous weekly luncheons.

 Joe is survived by his brothers, Pete (Jill) and their children, Jeff, Tari (Gary) Piediscalzzi and Ann; Chuck and his children, Lisa (Todd) Lusk, Lori, and Ross (Maureen); Bob (Kathie) and their children, Tony, Katie, and Molly; and his sister, Marie (Doug) Griesbach and their children, Mark (Cindy) and Karen (Andy) Follis; and his friend, Joanie Severson. Joe is further survived by great-nieces and nephews, many special cousins and friends too numerous to mention, but you all know the place you held in Joe's heart. Joe was a great brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

 A celebration of Joe's life will be held at VFW POST 7591, 301 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, beginning with a visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a time for sharing stories beginning at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 24, 2015, at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1128 St. James Court, Madison, with Monsignor Thomas Baxter presiding. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Obituary: Stanley "Pinky" R. Anundson - Class of 1964

MADISON - Stanley "Pinky" R. Anundson, age 69 passed away on Tuesday March 10, 2015 at his home in Madison. Born September 4, 1945 in Madison, the son of Herbert and Sophia (Baron) Anundson. Stanley was a lifelong resident of Madison, working and retiring from Kraft Foods Oscar Mayer after 35 years.

He was a Vietnam veteran receiving multiple medals honoring his service. He was an avid sports fan and outstanding athlete playing many sports including bowling, pool and darts but his love of softball brought him a great deal of enjoyment, playing in many leagues and tournaments throughout the years. He also loved classic cars, watching sports in his recliner and of course playing the lottery.

Stanley is survived by his children: Cami (Tod) Anundson-Schwenn, Jade (Jacqui Smith) Anundson, Jase (Joette) Anundson; his grandchildren Cade, Joshua, Jalen, Crae and Trae; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Cassandra Gruenberg and sister-in-law, Margret Anundson among many other loving family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Gary and Dennis.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Obituary: Jean M. (Poore) Shoemaker - Class of 1943

MADISON - Jean M. (Poore) Shoemaker died peacefully on Feb. 24, 2015, surrounded by her children. Jean was born on Jan. 13, 1926, in Otter Creek, Wis., to Elijah and Ruth (Rich) Poore. Jean graduated from Madison Central High School in 1943, and attended nursing school for a semester, which she left to travel to Seattle, Wash., to marry Bill Shoemaker on April 8, 1944. Jean was a true working mother, employed by Eagle Foods as a cashier and head cashier. In her sixties she attended courses in computer literacy and went to work at WPS before her retirement from Great Lakes Higher Education. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 70 years, where she was a dedicated volunteer and made many longtime friendships. She enjoyed traveling, playing golf in her later years, and her game group. Preceding Jean in death was her husband of 68 years, William; parents; and siblings, Mary Alice, Elaine, Sybil and Ed. She is survived by five children, Linda (Bob) Sands, Cindy (Greg) Hinz, Laura (Steve) Meixner, Ruth (Pat) Baier and Dan (Lisa) Shoemaker. Jean was proud grandmother to Pamela (Mike) Capozziello, Debi Sands (Steven Schwenke), Kristin (Scott) Mayer, Ryan Hinz (Austin Bell), Lindsay (Eric) Schmidt, Will (Sara) Meixner, Jeanine (Ben) LaRue, Lauren, Liza and Tess Baier, Spencer Nolden and John and Brooke Shoemaker. She is further survived by great-grandchildren, Ella, Colton, Kadin, Kellin and Gage; and her brother, Dick Poore. Jean's family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare Inc. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed directly by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m., at SUN PRAIRIE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 702 North St., Sun Prairie, with the Rev. Obituary: Genevieve (Jones) Jackson - Class of 1930

FITCHBURG - Genevieve (Jones) Jackson, age 102, passed away on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015. She was born to Margaret (Blaney) and Thomas Jones on Nov. 24, 1912, in Wales, U.K. She came to America with her family when she was 4 months old, and lived her entire life in the Fitchburg/Madison area. She attended Syene Grade School, Central High School, and Madison Business College. She worked 31 years for Wisconsin Telephone Co. (AT&T). In 1938, she married Erich Keller; he passed away in 1961. In 1962, she married Robert Jackson, who passed away in 1980. She loved to travel and visited every state and many foreign countries. She was a very active person, driving past the age of 95. She was a member of the Swan Creek Sewing Circle, the Cambrian Welch Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of Elks Lodge No. 410, Fitchburg Historical Society, the Fitchburg Senior Center and Grace Episcopal Church. She was also a Red Cross volunteer for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by nieces, Aleta (Jackson) Barmore (Daune) and Barbara Stoneman; nephews, Robert Jones (Ellen) and Marc Jones (Lois); grandnephew and godson, Tom Stoneman; many other grandnieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; sisters, Gladys Stoneman, Anna Hanson, Doris Gillette, and her twin sister, Dorothy, who died at sea at age 4 months; brother, Edwin Jones; and nieces and nephews, Neal Jones, Betty Gillette, Edna Cross, Harold Stoneman, Don Stoneman, Bill Stoneman, Dorothy Goddard and Janet Keenan. A funeral service will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Agrace HospiceCare in Gen's name. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care and Agrace HospiceCare for providing excellent loving care for her final months.

Obituary: Kenneth James Spangler - Class of 1965

SPRING GREEN - Kenneth James Spangler, age 67, of Spring Green, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at The Golden Living Center in Muscoda, Wis. Ken was born on April 9, 1947, at Madison General Hospital. He lived in Madison for 52 years, graduating from Madison Central High School in 1965. He later moved to Spring Green where he resided for 12 years. Ken worked as a customer service representative at Madison Gas & Electric for 46 years. He entered into wedded bliss on Oct. 8, 1976, to Paula Jeanne (nee Kunz) in St. Louis, Mo. Ken and Paula were married for 38 wonderful years. Surrounded by Christian men and women all of his life, Ken had a special connection, love and respect for Living Word of Faith Church and Bill Winston Ministries. Ken was a powerful and anointed Christian Faith Believer in the Lord Christ Jesus, the Father God, and Holy Spirit. Ken is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Paula Jeanne. She gratefully thanks St. Mary's Hospital Medical Teams, Dr. Robert Smith and his team at Golden Living Center, Agrace HospiceCare, and Dr. Kenneth Miller and the Spring Green Medical Staff. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lewis Spangler, and his mother, Lenora (Langve) Spangler. Ken said, "to set the Word of God in your heart one must trust and believe and do." Obituary: Beverky (Connery) Dunn-Philumalee - Class of 1950

MADISON / MIDDLETON - Beverly passed away very peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, with her four sons and daughters-in-law by her side at the Villa of Middleton Village Nursing home. Beverly was born in Milwaukee on Sept. 20, 1931, and moved to Madison when she was very young. She attended St. Raphael's and graduated from Madison Central in 1949. Beverly was the second oldest of the 15 children of Maurice and Lucille Connery. Raised in the Greenbush district, Bev had many stories to tell. She married Ronald J. Dunn on June 15, 1950. They lived in a few places before settling on Madison's east side. She worked most of her life in the restaurant business and owned first the Fair Oaks Cafe and then Bev's Restaurant on E. Washington Ave. for over 30 years. After Ron's passing, she moved with her second husband, Harvey Philumalee, to Marshall and helped her son, Jason with a new restaurant, Bev's on Main. Shortly after the move, Harvey and Bev retired in Marshall. When Harvey passed away in 2004, Bev stayed in Marshall until moving to Middleton in 2007. She had a great time living above the Vespa store at Dunn's Import, owned by her son, Jeffrey. As her health diminished, her final move was to the Villa at Middleton Village where the nursing staff and Agrace HospiceCare took exceptional care of her. Beverly was a lifetime member of the VFW women's auxiliary. She and Harvey belonged to the Madison Vintage Auto Club for many years. She especially loved just spending time with family and friends. Bev is survived by her four sons, John (Deidre) of Middleton, Jeff (Susan) of Middleton, Jim (Jean) of Madison and Jason (Beth) of Marshall; and her stepdaughter, Tammy (Tom) Dettinger of Madison. She is also survived by Eight of her 15 brothers and sisters, Don Connery, Joe (Linda) Connery, Mary Lou (Roger) Claus, Emmett (JoAnn) Connery, Tom (Bev) Connery, Sandy (Jim) Bancroft, Tim (Randy) Connery, Jerry (Patty) Connery; brother-in-law, Lenny Small; and sisters-in-law, Carol Connery and Kathy Connery. The list of nephews, nieces, grandkids and great-grandkids would be too overwhelming to list, but do know she loved every one of them very much. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald Dunn in 1981 and her husband Harvey Philumalee in 2004; her siblings, Jean (Dennis) "Dutch" Whitmore, Morris "Muggs" Connery, Richard (Kathryn) Connery, Ruth Ann Small, Pat Connery and Michael Connery. Her spirit will live on through the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate to know and love her. A Celebration of her life will be held at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. followed by a gathering with food, drink and conversation at EAST SIDE CLUB, 3735 Monona Drive, Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Agrace HospiceCare. Their services were greatly appreciated.

Bradley J. Lightfoot did not graduate from Madison Central High School, but attended for several years. He would have been a member of the Class of 1965. Brad's older brother, Joe, was a member of the Class of 1962.

Obituary: Suzanne Schneider Jones - Class of 1964

ANGOLA, Ind. - The world was blessed with an angel in Suzanne Jones [age 69]. The loving wife, adoring mother, doting grandmother and friend of many was called back to the arms of the Lord on Nov. 29, 2014. Suzanne was born on Oct. 10, 1945, in Madison, to Romie and Lorraine (Lemon) Schneider. The beautiful blonde with a beaming smile attended Madison Central High School, graduating in 1964. It was during her sophomore year there that her life was forever changed. Suzanne began dating a junior named Harold "Skip" Jones, and a 53-year love affair began. The happy couple married in Madison on Aug. 27, 1966. Suzanne and Skip traveled the globe and split time between Lake James in Angola, Ind., and their Hutchinson Island, Fla., condo. Suzanne's warmth, kindness, love and generosity will be missed by every person who was blessed to have known her. Suzanne is survived by the love of her life and soul mate, Skip, her husband of 48 years; her son, Steven, his wife, Stacey, and their children, Hannah, Connor and Hailey of Avon, Ind.; son, Robert, and his wife, Renee, of Union, Mich.; and son, Michael, his wife, Kate, and their children, Jack, Jenna and Cole of Fort Wayne, Ind.. Suzanne is also survived by her sister, Patty Hoffman of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; and brother, Bill Schneider of Poynette. Obituary: Clara A. "Clare" Di Loreto - Class of 1943

MADISON - Clara A. "Clare" Di Loreto, a lifelong resident of Madison, passed away at home on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, two days after her 89th birthday. She was born Chiara Di Loreto on Nov. 27, 1925, the youngest of five children. Her parents, Consiglio Di Loreto and Antonietta Campitelli Di Loreto, had emigrated to Madison from the Abruzzo region of Italy in the first decade of the 20th century. Clare was immensely proud of her heritage. Clare never married but was a big sister or second mother to her many nieces and nephews. She is survived, most immediately, by her loving caretaker and niece, Mary Tortorice; her great-nephew, Brian Tortorice; and her great-great-niece, Savannah Tortorice; along with many other nieces and nephews and their families whom mourn her death and will miss her vibrant personality, her naughty sense of humor, her wonderful stories, and the great interest she took in her family. Clare was preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings, Assunta (Sue) Saccomando of Chicago, Maria Regina (Mary) Tortorice of Madison, Stefano (Steve) Di Loreto of Menasha, and Donato (Dan) of Madison. Clare was what was called, in her day, a career girl. She graduated from Madison Central High School in 1943, received training as a secretary, and spent the next 45 years in that profession. She joined CUNA Mutual Insurance on May 1, 1948, transferring from CUNA Credit Union when her friends at CUNA Mutual told her the parties were better. Clare retired from the organization on May 1, 1988, proud of her 40 years of service to the day. Clare lived a full life, traveling widely in the United States and abroad. She was an excellent league bowler and a fiercely competitive card player. She and a number of her single friends formed a social club called the "Unclaimed Treasures" and had great fun together for many years. Family, friends, her Catholic faith, Chinese food, and pasta were Clare's great passions and enthusiasms. Even in her old age she could polish off a big plate of spaghetti, preferably with red sauce and homemade meatballs or sausage. She became an excellent cook in her retirement; earlier in life she was too busy to spend time in the kitchen. Clare was a member of St. Joseph Parish and (later) of St. Dennis Parish, where she was a member of the Altar Society and a lector at Sunday Masses. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at noon, on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Memorials may be made to St. Dennis Catholic Church.
