Obituary: Daniel C. Roberts - Class of 1964

MADISON - Dan Roberts, age 66, died on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. After living years with myeloma, Dan was stricken with an unrelated, rapid-onset infection. He was surrounded by his family at the end. Dan was the youngest of three boys born to Frank and Marjorie Roberts. For one year, brothers, Dan, Rich and Phil rode together to Madison Central High School on a motorcycle and sidecar. After graduating from the UW, Dan's professional career was devoted to public service and unionism. As a research analyst, he organized other state professionals and served as president of Professional Employees in Research Statistics & Analysis. Under his leadership, the union affiliated with AFSCME became AFSCME Local 144. He served as research director for AFSCME Council 24. It was during that time, in 1980, that he organized a rally at the State Capitol in reaction to Ronald Reagan's election. While organizing the rally, Dan met Carol who became his friend and 23 year later, his wife. He returned to state service, where he became an early member of the Wisconsin Professional Employees Council, chartered in 1993 as AFT Local 4848. He later served on the Local's Executive Council. Dan's other avocations included photography, freelance writing and tinkering with his VW Vanagon. He kept his extended family united in spite of where the family members located. He provided them support and regular contact throughout his life and often travelled to visit, driving and camping with Carol in the Vanagon. His loyal dog, Buddy was always by his side. Dan was generous to those in need - - inviting the homeless to stay in his home for a bit, or take a shower. He also contributed to local and international agencies. He was a regular contributor to the Human Rights Campaign, PLAN international, WPR and Progressive Dane. Dan is survived by his wife, Carol Weidel; son, Cory Roberts (Robyn Acker); brothers, Richard Roberts (Susan) and Phil Roberts (Sharon); stepdaughters, Laurel Redmon (John Thuesen) and Kristin Redmon (Bernadette Rappold); granddaughter, Maeve Redmon Rappold; and Buddy. Obituary: Craig Carleton Hill

MADISON [Wisconsin]  - Craig Carleton Hill, age 59, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, after a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Craig was born on Oct. 23, 1952, the son of Jerry and Berdine Hill, and grew up on the south side of Madison with the Arboretum as his playground. He attended Central High School until its closing in 1969, graduating from West High a year later but always thought of himself as a Central High alum and a Southsider through and through. After high school, Craig enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 1318 and a 35 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 159 as a master electrician. He was thankful to have had the opportunity at the end of his life to spend the last few months traveling with his family and was proud to complete his lifelong goal of visiting all 50 states. Craig was an avid outdoorsman, who especially loved hunting and fishing. He will be eternally grateful to Mud and Helen Lee and their family for sharing their cabin with him during deer season for the past 47 years. In 1979, he married "his best pal" Peggy Polk at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. His first son, Jeremy (Becca Hayward) of Chicago was born in 1983, followed by Hunter (Amanda Fath) of Madison in 1985. He was always very proud of "his boys'" achievements.

He was survived by his wife; his sons; sisters, Linda Hill of Madison and Maren Hill of Stoughton; his brother, Jay (Chris) Hill of Madison; sisters-in-law, Mary (John) Witte, Judy (Gary) Weimer, Theresa (Paul) Streib, and Anne (Bruce) Andrysczyk; brothers-in-law, John (Nancy) Polk, Jim (Sue) Polk, and George (Peggy) Polk; and too many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews to list. He is also survived by his faithful hunting partner, Mollie, his English Springer Spaniel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Emil and Alice Reinholtz; paternal grandparents, Stan and Helen Hill; his uncles, Don Spaith, Stan Reinholtz, and Stan Hill; brother-in-law, Mark Hlavek; in-laws, Glenn and Ruth Polk; niece, Bridget Polk; and previous Springer Spaniels, Famous and Babe.

A Celebration of Craig's Life will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., with a short service at the end of the celebration, on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012. Obituary: Donna M. (Bigley) Mork - Class of 1950

BELOIT - Donna M. Mork, age 79, went to be with Jesus early Thursday morning, July 19, 2012.

She was born Jan. 5, 1933, to Walter and Betty Bigley of Madison. She graduated from Central High School in 1950 in Madison.

Donna was the oldest of three sisters, Nancy Holmes of Superior, and Karen Webb of Texas. Two older brothers, Walter and Gene both deceased. Donna married David on Sept. 1, 1972, and he survives her.
Donna had two daughters from her first marriage, Catherine Daley and Theresa Kollars; four grandchildren, Sean Daley, Christopher Wallace, Michael Brown and George Gall; and five great-grandchildren, Teagan and Brexton Daley, and Grace, Liam and Abby Wallace. David had two sons and one daughter.

Donna loved people and worked in sales with Apple, Cinnamon and Bears, Elderberry Gift Shoppe, and managed Rages to Riches. She started the clothing and food supplies for the poor at First Assembly in Rockford. She was also secretary with Bill Pearce Ministries.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Cornerstone Church of Beloit. The memorial service will held on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at ROSMAN, UEHLING, KINZER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor David Metzger of Cornerstone Church will officiate. Friends may call on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Obituary: Frank J. Oliva, Jr. - Class of 1934

 MADISON/ WESTPORT/ SUN PRAIRIE  - Frank J. Oliva Jr., age 95, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Meriter Hospital.He was born on Sept. 8, 1916, the son of Frank and Calogesa (Greco) Oliva. Frank grew up in the Greenbush area and graduated from St. Joseph School in 1930 and entered Madison Central High School where he played football and graduated in 1934. He graduated from UW-Madison with a B.A. degree.

Frank served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He married Mabel E. Halverson on May 1, 1943, in Huntsville, Ala. He worked in the accounting and sales department for Scanlon and Morse Company and the engineering department for the City of Madison. Frank retired as a real estate agent for the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation. For many years, he co-operated a restaurant and tavern business in the city of Columbus, with his son-in-law. Frank also worked as a real estate broker, maintaining and managing several apartment homes. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, actively volunteering as an usher. Frank was also a member of the Madison Elks Club, Eastside Club and the Italian Workmen's Club. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Frank enjoyed acting in plays, golfing, traveling, hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved dancing. He was also an avid Badgers and Packers fan.

Frank is survived by his son, Duane (Kelly) Hauser of Marshall; son-in-law, Dewey Snart; grandchildren, Dwight (Linda) Carpenter, Debra (Stanley) Benzine, Dale Carpenter, Mike (Shirley) Hauser, David Hauser, Karen (Randy) Knox, Sandra Windau and Donald Snart; and cousin, Leonard (Susan) Greco. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel; his parents; daughters, Gwendolyn Snart and Elaine Carpenter; grandchild, Brian Hauser; and sisters, Catherine Oliva, Ann Mazzulla and Rose Holmes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012, with Monsignor Charles Schluter presiding. Obituary: Donald E. "Don" Beale - Class of 1955

MADISON  - Donald E. "Don" Beale, age 75, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on Jan. 30, 1937, in Madison, the son of Erwin and Romana (Dietrich) Beale. Don graduated from Central High School in 1955, where he excelled in athletics. He was named all-city in baseball, basketball and football. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 in South Korea. Don married Yvonne Pedracine on Aug. 16, 1958. He received a Police Science Degree from MATC. He served on the University of Wisconsin Police Department from 1960 to 1991, retiring as a detective with the department. Upon retiring, Don worked part-time at the U.S. Federal Courthouse as a security guard and enjoyed mentoring youth in The First Tee golf program. He spent a lifetime enjoying sports, especially golf since his retirement. He was a loving dad, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by family and friends. He was always optimistic and always there for his family. Don is survived by his wife, Yvonne; four sons, Greg (Nancy), Gary (Denise Davenport), Kevin (Cory) and Alan (Kelley Harbort); five grandsons, Nick (Brianna), Justin, Jordan, Mike and Shane; nine step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, Kyle Wrend, Jesse Hauser, Jayme and Jenee Davenport, Destiny, Jaymeson, Ashton, Gavin and Jesse; two sisters, Lola Cator and Virginia (Joe) Meitner; and brother Tom (Deane). He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Romana Beale; sister, Mona Wallace; and brothers-in-law, Robert Wallace, LaVerne Cator and James Lumina. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 12 noon. Obituary: Marlene (Sullivan) Martinez - Class of 1953

SALEM, OREGON - Marlene (Sullivan) Martinez, age 76, passed away on March 26, 2012, at her home in Salem, Ore., surrounded by her family. She was born on June 19, 1935, in Highland, Wis., to Frank and Helen (Longseth) Sullivan. Following her marriage to John Martinez on May 8, 1954, in Madison, she moved to the San Francisco Bay area until finally moving to Salem, Ore., in 1969. Marlene graduated from Madison Central High School in 1953, pursued a career in nursing for several years before enjoying a successful career in real estate. Marlene is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Diana, Kimberly and Nancy; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Carole (Joe) Sytek and Joan (Vince) Parisi. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie; her parents; a brother, Jim (Alberta) Sullivan; and sister, Maxine (Phil) Meyers. A celebration of Marlene's life was held on March 30, 2012, in Salem, Ore.

Obituary: Ernest Joseph "Nunzio" Novara - Class of 1952

OREGON - Ernest Joseph "Nunzio" Novara, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. He was born on July 15, 1934, the son of Gaspare and Rose Novara. Ernie graduated from Central High School in 1952. He served in the Air National Guard at Truax Field from 1953 until his retirement in 1989. Ernie married the love of his life, Mary Lou Kerwin in 1955. He was a volunteer for St. Mary's Hospital as a Eucharist Minister for 20 years. Ernie also served in all capacities at Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church. He and Mary Lou enjoyed their get-togethers with "The Sweethearts Club" (a group of six couples from Truax) which had been established for 52 years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou; was the proud father to four daughters, Sarita and Larry Neath of Fitchburg, Jo Jean Novara of Tucson, Ariz., Darcy and Edward Halloran of McFarland, and Julie Hagen and Michael Mahnke of New Glarus; honorary daughter, Jane Cords of Tucson, Ariz.; prouder grandfather to Tyler and Amanda Halloran and Bret and Kayla Hagen (the grandkids could do NO wrong in grandpa's eyes); brother to Leonard "Dino" and Gen Novara; and is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main Street, Oregon, at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Johnson on Dec. 30, 1967, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madison. April worked for various insurance companies as a unit clerk for 37 years. After retirement, she volunteered at St. John's Lutheran Church and Romes Corner Middle School in Oregon. April is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Nicholet J. (Steven) Wagner; son, Carl J. Obituary: Richard Marvin "Dick" McMahan

MADISON - Richard Marvin "Dick" McMahan passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2012, in Madison. Dick was born on Nov. 3, 1944, in Madison. He was the son of Michael James and Mabel Irene (Gilbertson) McMahan. Dick was a graduate of Central High School. He served in the Army as a Special Electrical Device Repairman with the 57th Engineering Co./Heavy Maintenance. He was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Upon his return to civilian life, Dick worked in the construction trades and as an auto mechanic. His most important job was caring for both his parents until their deaths. He sacrificed much in his own life to care for and keep them at home. Dick was preceded in death by both his parents; his brother, Joseph Michael McMahan, in 1998; and his sister, Betty Jean McMahan in 2001. He is survived by his niece, Erin (Ken) Proctor of Madison; and nephew, Sean (Lisa) McMahan of Lakeside, Calif. He also has grandnieces, Kati McMahan and Jade Proctor and grandnephew, Shane McMahan. Committal services will be held at FOREST HILL CEMETERY, 1 Speedway Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012.

Obituary: John A. Lehmann - Class of 1943

MADISON - John A. Lehmann, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at St. Mary's Care Center. He was born on Sept. 20, 1924, in Mather, the son of Alfred and Edna (Hoover) Lehmann. John came to Madison in 1937, and was a graduate of Central High School. He served during World War II, in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1943 until 1947. John married Florence Viviani on Aug. 20, 1949, in Madison. He was a power plant engineer for the State of Wisconsin for 38 years, retiring in 1986. John was a member of the Wisconsin Association of Power Plant Engineers, Knights of Columbus, and St. Bernards Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing euchre, spending time with family, dancing, reading, and camping. John is survived by daughters, Nancy (Felix) Kowalewsky, Sue (Paul) Lehmann-Ziebarth, and Karen Lehmann, all of Madison; sons, Tim (Maggie) Lehmann of Madison, and Jeffrey (Sandee) Lehmann of Oregon; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; his parents; and brother, Fred. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Avenue, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Obituary: Judith Anne (Pedracine) Blue

MADISON  - Judith Anne Blue, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. She was born on April 6, 1940, in Madison, the daughter of Joseph P. and Alma (Crooks) Pedracine. Judith was raised by her grandparents, Lawrence and Crescentia Pedracine from the age of three months. She attended St. James, Central High School and Edgewood High School. Judith was married to Fred Banks Sr. from 1960 until 1973. She was married to Roscoe Blue from 1975 until his death in 2002. Judith was one of the first women hired under the WIN program and worked for the City of Madison Parks Maintenance Department in 1973. Most recently, she was the food pantry coordinator at St. Marks for 12 years. Judith was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, serving as a Mother of the Church and Wednesday night cook for fellowship dinner. She is survived by her children, Katherine Pedracine, Fred Banks, Crescentia Banks-Foellmi, and LeeAnne Banks, all of Madison; sisters, Elizabeth McCredie, Susan (Wendell) Brookyser, and Mary Jo (Mike) White; 26 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; husbands; brother, Joey Pedracine; and daughter, Mary Ann. Funeral services will be held at MOUNT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH, 2019 Fisher Street, Madison, at noon on Friday, April 13, 2012, with the Rev. Richard Jones presiding. Obituary: Catherine "Katie" Endres Spangler Wagner - Class of 1942

SUN PRAIRIE - Catherine "Katie" Endres Spangler Wagner, age 88, died on April 4, 2012, at the Prairie Gardens Assisted Living Facility. Katie was born on March 1, 1924, in Cross Plains, the daughter of Michael and Gertrude (Boehnen) Endres. After graduation from Madison Central High School in 1942, she married Paul Spangler on Jan. 4, 1944. Paul passed away in 1972. She later married Francis Wagner on Sept. 7, 1973. Katie worked as the deli/bakery manager for many years at Sentry Foods and as a waitress for more than 20 years at Herremann's Restaurant and Supper Club. She was a founding member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. Katie's greatest accomplishment, however, was her family. Katie enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, bingo, gaming, bowling and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Katie is survived by her husband, Francis of Sun Prairie; five children, Pauline (Bill) Wentland of Windsor, Gloria (Mike) McCann of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Mary Kay (Jim) Robinson of Fairport, N.Y., Richard (Lisa) Spangler of Stoughton, and Lois (Bob) Frank of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, George, Jackie, Mark, Tom, Doug, Paul, Bryan, Katie, Nikki, Mackenzie and Scott; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael (Anne) Endres of Sun Prairie; two brothers-in-law, Wesley Gest of DeForest, and Peter Broome of Houston, Texas; four sisters-in-law, Mildred Krull of Lake Mills, Mary Grinsteiner of Kimberly, Genevieve (Dick) Halvorson of Madison, and Barb Endres of Monona; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Obituary: Elaine (Seldal) Krasny - Class of 1967

MILWAUKEE - Born to life December 1948. Born into Eternal Life on March 28, 2012.

Soul mate of George. Companion to Ginger. Cherished daughter of Betty and the late Russell Seldal. Beloved sister of David (Barbara) and Dale (Gayle). Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Elaine graduated from high school in 1966. She went on to study at UW-Madison where she met George. Private services were held in Milwaukee.

Obituary: Marlow O. Norsetter - Class of 1958

MADISON - Marlow O. Norsetter, age 71, of Madison, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Friday, March 23, 2012. He was born on July 24, 1940, in Madison, the son of Ollis and Helen (Vale) Norsetter. Marlow was a 1958 graduate of Central High School where he lettered in hockey when the sport was new to the high school. He was united in marriage to Susanne Kneebone on June 20, 1959, in Dubuque, Iowa. He worked in the lathing industry for 23 years, operated Red's Enco Service Station for five years and was self employed d/b/a Norsetter Remodeling until he retired. He loved hunting, fishing, ATVing and his 1932 Studebaker, "Rockne". Marlow also enjoyed coaching youth hockey for the South Side Hockey Association. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susanne; sons, Phil (Sandra) Norsetter and Jeff (Jennifer) Norsetter; daughter, Kellee Norsetter; nine grandchildren, Philipp, Michael, Kyle, Jeffree, Nicole, Erik, Ryan, Cole and Jonah; three great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Oliver and Robert; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David Norsetter. A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Obituary: Kenneth Raymond Sticha - Class of 1948

APPLETON - Kenneth Raymond Sticha, age 81, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

 Ken was born July 14, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Anthony and Margaret (Kraus) Sticha. Ken was a 1948 Madison Central High School graduate and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1953. Ken was united in marriage on Feb. 2, 1952, to Lenore DeWaide, his high school sweetheart at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Madison. They shared 52 wonderful years together. He served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955 as a Stevedore Officer with the transportation corps during the Korean conflict.

Following his military service, Ken moved back to Wisconsin with his family and was employed with the Kroger Company and later on at the Nash Finch Company (S.C. Shannon Co.) for several years as a buyer merchandiser. He retired from Nash Finch in 1994. Ken also was employed after retirement with Fox Valley Auto Auction for 15 years. He was a faithful member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Appleton. Most important to Ken was spending time with his family and many friends, but he also enjoyed going fishing.

He is lovingly survived by his three children, Tony (Celeste) Sticha of Green Bay, Paul (Jean) Sticha of Stevens Point, and Sue (Jim) Gault of Wilmette, Ill.; three grandchildren, Sarah and Ryan Sticha, and Jennie Gault; three great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Sticha of Madison.

 Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore, on Sept. 15, 2004; two brothers, Edward and James; and his parents.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the STAR OF HOPE MAUSOLEUM, 3131 N. Richmond St., Appleton with Pastor Dennis Ellison officiating. Inurnment will be in the mausoleum. Ken’s family will receive relatives and friends at the mausoleum on Saturday from noon until the hour of service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Appleton or a charity of your choice.

Obituary: Josephine Marie (DiLorenzo) Scheel - Class of 1942

MADISON - Josephine Marie (DiLorenzo) Scheel, age 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, having suffered from Alzheimer’s.

She was born on Oct. 8, 1923, in Madison, the daughter of Angelo and Anna (Trapino) DiLorenzo. Josephine graduated from Madison Central High School in 1942. She graduated from beauty school in 1944. Josephine married Floyd (Doc) Scheel on May 22, 1948. She opened Jo’s Beauty Salon on Sept. 9, 1958, and operated it until 2005. Josephine’s granddaughter, Reanna has recently reopened the salon renaming it Reanna’s Salona. Josephine was the president of the Wisconsin Hairdresser Association in 1960. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with her husband, to Italy to visit family, and to the many hair shows all over the country. Josephine also enjoyed playing blackjack at Ho-Chunk Casino. Jo was a trend setter ahead of her time. Her family was always her number one priority from the beginning, raising her children while working from the Beauty Shop in her home, an accomplishment her children and grandchildren will forever be grateful for. Jo was a strong feisty wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and relative never to be forgotten. She carried herself with grace and charm quietly adding a loving touch to all she did. She made her mark in this world and is now continuing on in the next. We will miss her style and laughter. We Love You!

She is survived by her husband, Floyd (Doc) with whom she had a long love affair of 63 years; daughter, Sherry Nelson; son, Greg Scheel; grandchildren, Shawn (Kristi) Doyle, Shane (Lynne) Doyle, and Reanna Nelson; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Hannah, Jack and Simon Doyle; sister-in-law, Phyllis Coaty; and brother-in-law, Robert Scheel. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Rodney Scheel in 1990; grandson, Tyler Nelson in 2005; two brothers, Vincent (Jimmy) and Anthony (Tony); two sisters, Virginia Voigt and Rose Cardy; and brother-in-law, Ken Scheel.

A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., with a time to share memories at 5:45 p.m., on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Obituary: - Robert "Bob" Marble - Class of 1951

MONONA - Robert “Bob” Marble, age 79, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at his home.

He was born on Oct. 30, 1932, in Madison, the son of Ray and Edith (Beckett) Marble. Bob graduated from Central High School in 1951. He was a proud member of the Wisconsin National Guard from 1949 to 1957. On Thanksgiving Day in 1953, Bob married Helen Jorgensen. After 30 years of employment, Bob retired from Oscar Mayer in 1981. He then worked as a locksmith for Capital Lock and Security until he retired in 1994. In 1994, Bob and his brother, Gerry, started Blue Marble Enterprises, an endeavor they had long planned. Bob also enjoyed working with youth in the Explorer Scouts and 4H, singing, woodworking, and making candy. He was famous for his peanut brittle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; daughter, Vicki (Bryan) Miller; sons, Daniel, Lionel (Betty) and Sam; six grandchildren, Heather, Sarah, Marcus, Zachary, Ronald and Henry; two great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald (Davilee); and sisters, NayDean Davidson and Nieta McConnell. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Genny Hackbart; and daughter-in-law, Judy Marble.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 5 p.m., on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bob’s family.

Obituary: William C. "Willy" Teasdale - Class of 1969

MADISON/ FITCHBURG - William C. "Willy" Teasdale, age 61, passed away on March 5, 2012, at his home in Fitchburg, with his beloved wife of 26 years by his side. He was born Dec. 20, 1950, in Madison, son of Charles and Virginia Teasdale. He graduated from Central High School in 1969 and proudly served in the U.S. Army before being honorably discharged in 1979. He was the 3rd generation owner/operator of the Silver Dollar Tavern for the past 38 years, member of the Madison Elks Lodge No. 410 for 26 years, and a life member of the VFW Post 1318. He took great pride in his home. He especially enjoyed landscaping and remodeling projects with the assistance of his friend, Tip. To make his home more joyous, he was extremely devoted to his two pets, Henri and Gracie. As he crosses over the rainbow bridge, he will whistle and Henri will be rejoined with his master. His favorite pastime was his passion for golf, which he enjoyed with his wife, friends, and his league play at Foxboro. There were many scores below 80. He also enjoyed professional sports and was known to make a wager from time to time. He is survived by his wife, Ellie Teasdale, of Fitchburg; sons, Charles Teasdale (Kris) and Brian Teasdale (Michelle) of Waunakee; daughter, Tanya Teasdale; grandchildren, Cierra, Ashley, Hannah, Parker, and Peyton Teasdale of Waunakee; and brother, John Teasdale of Madison. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Susan Shaw; and brother, James Teasdale. "He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature" (Socrates).

Obituary: Sidney Sweet

MADISON - Sidney Sweet, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012.

Sidney, the eldest child of Max and Libby Sweet was born in Duluth, Minn., on the original Armistice Day. Nov. 11, 1918, and as he came into the world, a world at war found peace. The Sweet family survived the Great Depression in Madison's beloved Greenbush section. Sidney would sell newspapers and began to learn the family trade from his father, the laundry and dry cleaning business. But, there was always some time if not money for his true passions - big band music and dancing. War came again to the world and Sidney answered the call serving four years as a medic with the Eighth Air Force in England.

After the war, Sidney set out to establish his own laundry and dry cleaning business in Beaver Dam with Eager Beaver Laundry and then in Madison with Bold Cleaners, NuLife-Spotless, Spic and Span and Quality Service Laundry and Cleaners. After closing the business, the hard work ethic learned at his parents' side during the Depression would continue. Sidney worked for both Dane County Public Works at the Verona landfill and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Madison. In addition, he started another business, Sweet Tees and Sportswear, teaching himself the screen printing business and selling collegiate souvenirs at Wisconsin and Iowa sporting events. He also operated two gift stores in Wisconsin Dells and one in Madison.

Sidney was a charter member of Beth Israel Center. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors and the Ritual Committee, he was a member of the Madison Jewish Burial Society for 25 years. Sidney organized and hosted seven free big band reunion dances in Madison. He also wrote a book, "Greenbush USA, I Lived There" covering his early experiences in the "Bush." After living in Madison nearly 70 years, Sidney moved to Las Vegas, Nev., where he spent his later years dancing and enjoying the big band music at the local casinos. He soaked in the Vegas scene as only he could.

Sidney is survived by his three children, Mark (Linda Eyers) Sweet of Wisconsin Dells, Larry (Sandra) Sweet of Northbrook, Ill., and Nori Nathanson of Chandler, Ariz. He is also survived by his sister, Betty of St. Paul, Minn.; and his sister-in-law, Connie Largent of Brownstown, Ill. Sidney's special partner Eda Bade provided him with so much love and compassion making his later years more comfortable. Sidney is also survived by his grandchildren, Nicole, Joel and Bryan Nathanson, Bradley Sweet; and step-grandchildren, Brian (Angy) Lundeen and Aaron (Melissa) Lundeen; and several nieces and nephews.

Sidney was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Sophie; his parents, Max and Libby Sweet; his brother, Allan; his sister, Lillian; and sister, Bertha.

Sidney was born in peace and fittingly he is now at peace, again. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at 1 p.m. at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Obituary: Josephine (Giusti) Walsh - Class of 1937

 COLUMBUS/ FALL RIVER - Josephine Walsh, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at the Columbus Community Hospital. She was born in Madison, on Sept. 18, 1919, to George and Jenny (Metranga) Giusti. She grew up in the Italian Greenbush neighborhood, and was proud to be the daughter of one of the founders of the Italian Workmen's Club. She graduated from Central High School in 1937. On July 4, 1952, she married Clarence Walsh and they settled in Madison. In 1957, they moved to rural Columbus, where they raised four children. Josephine was a patient, loving and devoted mother, always seen in the audience offering encouragement during her children's many athletic or musical events. She was a long-time member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in the Town of Elba, where she taught Catechism and served on the Altar Society. She had worked at both Stokely Van Camp in Columbus, as a first-aid technician, and the Wisconsin Cheeseman in Sun Prairie. She enjoyed reading, especially biographies. She had a life-long love of the movies - as a young girl, shows at the downtown Madison theaters were a favorite, inexpensive Depression-era escape. Those lucky enough to sit at her table were treated to sumptuous meals - she could make anything from wild game, to a perfect roast chicken, to the world's greatest lemon pie. She loved to travel, visiting Switzerland twice to see her dear friends, Mary and Martin Steiner. She also sat on the beach in the Bahamas and got a kiss from Wayne Newton in Las Vegas. She was a die-hard Packers and Badgers football fan, and spent the last Sunday of her life cheering on her Packers from a hospital bed. She is survived by her husband, Clarence, of Columbus; two sons, Greg (Tanna) of Sylvania, Ohio, and Tim (Agnes Chwae) of Madison; a daughter, Karen (James Berbee) Walsh of Madison; a sister, Rosella Sager of Sacramento, Calif.; her two beloved granddaughters, Caitlin (Sam) Evans of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Megan Walsh Rodgers (Joe) of Fairview Park, Ohio; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Jonathan in 1973; granddaughter, Theresa Walsh in 1993; her parents; two brothers, Sam Giusti and Tony Justo; three sisters, Saveria Stassi, Jenny Giusti and Ann Spada; other relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at ST. COLUMBKILLE CATHOLIC CHURCH, W10802 County Highway TT, Columbus. The Rev. Rick Wendell will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at the funeral home. There will be no visitation at the church prior to Mass. Josephine's family would like to especially thank the staff of the Meadows Assisted Living Apartments, Dr. Sam Poser and the Columbus Community Hospital for their caring and support during her final months.
